With recent changes in the legislation regarding the tax abatement, non-primary residents will no longer qualify for the New York City tax abatement. To ease the burden, the full abatement is being phased out, providing non-primary residents with a 25% credit this year being the last year . If your bill reflects an abatement which is significantly less than the assessment amount, you have been identified by the Department of Finance as a non-primary resident.
